Genetic Counseling and Certification:

Breeding dogs need to be evaluated carefully to determine their potential for passing their genes on to the next generation. We are here to help you ascertain what genetic potential exists for health concerns in your superdog.

OFA:

We are fully qualified to help with all aspects of the OFA registry process.

Hips and Elbows: We are extremely experienced at taking appropriate radiographs in the correct position. Incorrect positioning can compromise the certification process for your dog. In addition, we can usually obtain correct radiographs with minimal or no sedation, allowing your dog to go home in a short period of time.

Patellas: Luxating patellas are a significant problem in some breeds. We are experienced at palpating for patellar luxation, and submitting the results to OFA for certification.

Thyroid: The thyroid registry requires the blood sample to be processed appropriately. We understand the correct method of processing and submitting blood samples for the OFA thyroid registry.

Because it is necessary to show permanent identification when submitting any request for OFA certification, we can provide microchipping or tattooing when your dog arrives.

PENNHIP:

PennHip is a radically different method of determining the laxity of hips with special radiographic techniques. PennHip helps maximize our knowledge of the genetic potential for producing tight hips, the primary component for preventing hip dysplasia. Most exciting, it can be done as young as 16 weeks of age, allowing young dogs to be screened for their genetic potential before you have committed a large amount of emotional, physical and monetary energy to your potential superdog.

The certification process allowing veterinarians to submit PennHip radiographs is rigorous. We have multiple veterinarians who have completed PennHip certification, making it easily available for you. Call us for an appointment.

DNA Registries:

We keep kits on hand as needed for obtaining DNA certification through the AKC for your dog.

We are also familiar with the various forms of DNA testing available. Although every breed has its own registries, and submission policies, we are very aware of the techniques needed to draw and process blood properly for analysis. Talk to us about your breed's DNA testing!

PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION:

Many registries, including the OFA, require permanent identification of dogs being submitted for health clearances. We are able to permanently identify your dog with either microchips or tattoos. Microchipping is a single injection between the shoulder blades of a small computer chip about the size of a grain of rice. Thus, it provides permanent identification quickly and easily. In addition, there is a 24-hour hotline for recovery of your pets at AKC.
